now this is useful, interesting and everything!

Islamic Spain!...

"Some consider al-Andalus (Islamic Spain), with its rugged peaks and plush river valleys and endless expanse of olive groves and fruit orchards, to have been paradise lost. For others it was a high point of Muslim achievement in the sciences, philosophy, and the arts. Still others consider it the epitome of a medieval pluralistic society where Muslims, Christians and Jews shared a common culture and created a unique and humane society for nearly 800 years."

This is when History starts getting interesting. So many things I didn't know before, subhan'Allah! All I knew of Spain, was that there was a large mosque in Cordoba (Qurtuba) with red interior walls!! al-hamdulillah!

the extract above is from an excellent piece of writing @ Islamicity. Defeinitely have to read it, insha'Allah! And islamicity have this amazing thing going on where you can go to Spain yourself and visit the famous sites!!

Allah Most High says: “O Son of Adam! I was sick but you did not visit me.” He says: “O My Lord! How could I have visited You when You are the Lord of the worlds? Allah will say: “Did you know that My servant so and so was sick and you did not visit him. Did you know that if you had visited him you would have found Me there?

O Son of Adam! I asked you for food but you did not give Me any.” “O My Lord! How could I have fed You when You are the Lord of the worlds? Allah will say: Did you not know that My servant so and so asked you for food but you did not give him any. Did you know that if you had fed him, you would have found (reward) with Me? “

O son of Adam! I asked you for water and you did not give me any. He says: “O My Lord! How could I have given You drink when You are the Lord of the worlds? Allah will say: Did you not know that My servant so and so asked you for a drink and you did not give him any? Did you not know that if you had given him something to drink you would have found (your reward) with Me?

This site has got to be one of the best sites around for reading about the life of the Prophet! subhan'Allah! I'm so glad and grateful to Islamicity for providing this link!! The best!

This is an extract from a book I am reading at the moment, and this paragraph follows on from a discussion about The Day of Judgement and resurrection:

"Religious teaching is often viewed as an archaic set of thoughts for a primitive mind. Society at large finds the notion of recreation by God totally incompatible with modern day living and thought. Yet in America, which holds the status of super-power and exporter of culture and trend to the rest of the world, there exists a growing segment of society which believes that it is only matter of time before science and modern medicine will be able to conquer death. The human genome programme is thought to have mapped the complete human genetic code, opening the doors to the conquest of disease and potentially, old age. Consequently the practise of cryogenics is increasing in popularity; people pay large amounts of money to have their central nervous system removed after death and stored in low temperature vaults in the hope that one day medical knowledge will provide the technique to restore them back to life. Modern man is prepared to belive that science and medicine will recreate him, yet when his Creator informs him that He will recreate mankind the dsibelievers mockingly reject."

insha'Allah, I was going to post a whole article: it's called "Ramadhan in History" by Sheikh Abdullah Haqim Quick. Then I visited 'Sweetz Blog' and i realised I read this article before, and I said 'subhan'Allah'. So insha'Allah, this article I'd recommend for anyone to read, as it highlights all the events from the Past that took place in the Glorious month of Ramadan, major battles, the crusades. From the time of the Prophet (s.a.w) to the Mamluks and their victory over the Mongols.

the article can be found here.

not that there's any point in mentioning this, but i thought i would just for the sake of remembering when, today was the last day! Now we got a week off, al-hamdulillah!

yesterday al-hamdulillah, i went to this weekly study circle, after an invitation, and al-hamdulillah it was excellent! every week, brothers come from places and they give short little talks and tell stories. yesterday, a brother was telling the story of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) (a.s) and how he ended in the stomach of a whale. the Pharoah of Egypt was also discussed. the main point of that talk however, was that we should always remember Allah at times of ease and happyness. because what we tend to do is turn to Allah at times of hardships and diffculty. But if we remeber Allah at ALL times, then Allah will remember us when we turn to Allah at times of hardship, ease or suffering! al-hamdulillah!

insha'Allah, I'm going to post ahadith, Qur'anic ayat, and articles or other things I come across regarding Ramadan, and the history, virtues and blessings of Ramadan. al-hamdulillah, Ramadan is once again approaching us, and is not very far away, and for us to take advantage of this month of blessings, we have to know how to achieve the blessings of Allah (s.w.t) and attain true Iman. Insha'Allah, I'm going to start today:

Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas tells that the Prophet (s.a.w) used to become unusually kind and generous during ramadan. No beggar in that period went empty-handed from his door, and as many slaves as possible were set free. (Baihaqi)

We are doing some work on volcanoes and plate tectonics at the moment in school, and we are learning so many things. How the plates move together, how they collide, how energy is released and e.t.c, e.t.c

But at school, they fail to teach us HOW the volcanoes really get their in the first place, where the energy and lava originates from, how volcanoes have come into in existence...

WE find the truth in the Qur'an...

"Verily, your Lord! He is the All Wise Creator." - (15:86)

"Allah is Creator of all things, and He is Guardian over all things." - (36:92)

"He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the best names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Might, All Wise." - (59:24)

al-hamdulillah, one thing that I discovered recently, which is worth sharing is AHAD!! A Hadith A Day!

"AHAD is an automated electronic mailing list that sends out an authenticated Hadith (in english) everyday to its subscribers.
Hadiths are the words and deeds of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. AHAD is open to both Muslims and Non-Muslims who wish to know more about Islam.

The Hadith used will Insh'Allah all be authentic and will usually be taken from Saheeh Bukhari or Saheeh Muslim. Other sources may also be used. Either way the source will always be mentioned at the end of the Hadith."

al-hamdulillah! This service without a doubt is definetlyone of the best sources of knowledge and wisdom available on the internet. All you do is sign up for the mailing list, and everyday you receive a little treasure, so treasure = knowledge. Knowledge = IMAN!!

insha Allah: AHAD

Surah al-Ikhlas

Narrated A'isha (r.a) : The Prophet (s.a.w) sent (an army unit) under the command of a man who used to lead his companions in the prayers and would finish his recitation with "Surah al-Ikhlas (112)". When they returned from the battle they mentioned that to the Prophet (s.a.w). He said to them, "Ask him why he does
so."
They asked him and he said, "I do so because it mentions the Qualities of the Most Gracious and I love to recite it (in my prayers)." The Prophet said (to them). "Tell him that Allah loves him." (Al-Bukhari - 9/7375)

"Say: He is Allah, (the) One.
Allah, the Self sufficient.
He begets not, nor was He begotten.
And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."

Einstein! (E=mc²) Pythagoras! (c²=a²+b²) al Khwarizmi! (???)

If someone asked you to name a famous mathematician, who would you say? Einstein? Pythagoras??

Well, yeah they're famous all right, but we usually tend to forget one really BIG mathematician here.
Muhammad ibn Musa al’Khwarizmi

This brother is responsible for probably half the stuff you learn in Maths!

Al Khwarizmi wrote a book called "Hisab al-jabr w’al-muqabala" - and I think you can guess from that where we got ALGEBRA from?!?!

Al Khwarizmi was a well known mathematician and geographer who lived from 780 CE to 850 CE. In his famous book, he wrote about Linear and Quadratic equations. In his books he wrote about so many different kinds of algebraic equations and things, he showed how to do things like multiply out this kind of expression (a + b x) (c + d x)

"Musa al-Khwarizmi (780--850 A.D.) a native of Khwarizm, who lived in the reign of Mamun-ar-Rashid, was one of the greatest mathematicians of all times. He composed the oldest Islamic works on arithmetic and algebra which were the principal source of knowledge on the subject for a fairly long time. George Sarton pays glowing tribute to this outstanding Muslim mathematician and considers him "">"one of the greatest scientists of his race and the greatest of his time".' He systematised Greek and Hindu mathematical knowledge and profoundly influenced mathematical thought during mediaeval times. He championed the use of Hindu numerals and has the distinction of being the author of the oldest Arabic work on arithmetic known as Kitab-ul Jama wat Tafriq. The original version of this work has disappeared but its Latin translation Trattati a" Arithmetic edited by Bon Compagni in 1157 at Rome is still in existence."

I think it'll be worth it , insha allah, to have a deeper and more through look through this section of Net Muslims - #...

Then you see how much ISLAM has contributed to world developement in everything!! al-hamdulillah!
